Common Dental Emergencies We See

What should you do if you have a toothache or another type of dental emergency? Here are some of the most common situations we encounter in our Lubbock practice, as well as what you should do before calling:

Knocked-Out Tooth

Find your tooth and place it in a sealed container, and completely submerge it in milk or contact solution. Rinse away any visible debris, but don’t touch the roots. It might be possible to reinsert them if we see you within the next hour or two.

Toothaches and Abscesses

Active cavities, cracked teeth, traumatic injuries, or infected nerves can all cause tooth pain. If you can’t eat because of pain or there is visible swelling, call us immediately.

Loose Teeth

Traumatic injuries can cause teeth to become loose in their sockets. Unless it's a baby tooth, resist the urge to touch or wiggle it. Please contact our Lubbock dental office to schedule an emergency appointment. In most cases, we will want to splint the tooth against a neighboring one to allow it to heal.

Broken Fillings

If old fillings are not replaced as they begin to leak and give way, they can pull away from the tooth and predispose them to fractures. If your filling falls out, we will need to replace it or cover the tooth with a crown. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth, and schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
